School Hours/Tardy Policy/Early Dismissal

 

School Hours:  7:30 AM - 2:20 PM

Students are NOT allowed on the grounds prior to 7:00 AM.  Students may wait between the yellow lines on the blacktop until the bell rings at 7:30 AM.  Students are expected to leave campus immediately after dismissal.  Students habitually on campus after 2:30 PM are subject to disciplinary action.  Students participating in an after-school activity are exempt from this provision.

Tardy Policy:     Homeroom:    7:30 - 7:38

                                 7:35 - 7:38    report to homeroom, tardy to homeroom.

                                 7:38 - 1:18    report to office for tardy slip/pass.

                               No check-ins after 1:18 PM.

 

Excessive tardiness to school/class will be subject to disciplinary action, according to the Jefferson Parish School Board Policy and Procedures Manual.

Early Dismissal:   

Early dismissal for exams is 10:55 AM.  Please note these dates:  December 18, 21 - 22, 2009 and May 25 - 27, 2010.  Please see schedule tabs for additional information on times for exams.

 Consult the school calendar for any additional early dismissal dates.

 

Use of Telephone/Messages to Students 

 

 

Please make transportation arrangement with your child before coming to school.  Students are not allowed to use the phone after detention, school meetings, or team practices.  Only emergency messages will be delivered to students during the day as this disrupts instructional time.

 

 

Cell Phone/Electronics Policy

 

Cell Phone/Telecommunication Device Policy

With the current availability and convenience of cell phones, these items have become commonplace.  However, the policy of T. H. Harris, in accordance with Jefferson Parish School Board Policy, prohibits the possession and/or usage of cell phones on any school campus, school bus, or at any school-sanctioned event.  The official school board policy is stated as follows:

"CODE OF CONDUCT STANDARD 18:  A student shall not use, possess, or operate any electronic telecommunication device including any facsimile system, radio paging service, mobile telephone service, intercom, or electro-mechanical paging system or beeper in school buildings, on school premises, on school buses, or at school-sanctioned events.

I.  Rationale:  The use, possession, or operation of any electronic telecommunication device including an y facsimile system, radio paging system, mobile          telephone on school premises, on school buses, or at school-sanctioned events without the express consent of the school principal poses an ongoing threat to disruption to the academic process."

Additionally, if a student is found to be in possession of any prohibited device, the device will be confiscated.  The official school board policy continues:

"III.  A.  Seizure of electronic telecommunication devices:  Where a student is found to be using, possessing, or operating any electronic telecommunication device including facsimile system, radio paging system, mobile telephone service, intercom, or electro-mechanical paging system or beeper in school buildings, on school premises, on school buses, or at school-sanctioned events, the principal/designee shall confiscate any such electronic device."

 

Electronics Policy

It is the policy of T. H. Harris Middle School, in accordance with Jefferson Parish School Board Policy, to not allow any type, sort, or form of playback device to include, but not be limited to, CD players, cassette tape players/recorders, DVD players, MP3 players, radios, or any other type of device used in the playback of audio and/or video recordings or live broadcasts.  Nor will any type, sort, or form of electronic gaming/entertainment device be allowed to be in the possession of a student on campus.  Any type of prohibited device found to be in possession of a student will be confiscated.

 

Return of Confiscated Items Policy

It is the policy of T. H. Harris Middle School to return any and all confiscated items to the parent/legal guardian of the student the item from which the item was confiscated.  Items will not be returned to the student or any person other than the parent/legal guardian of the student from which the item was confiscated.
